Artist Statement Born and raised in Michigan, Beth and her family have been residents of Holland, Michigan since 1996. She is a 1987 cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan, having earned her BFA with concentrations in painting, drawing, and illustration. Beth’s favored medium is acrylic. Her subject matter includes floral, sailing, landscape, still life, and abstract design. She has been increasingly working more with the palette knife and acrylic mediums to enhance the movement and texture of her work.

Beth’s design and color sense and ability to demonstrate techniques effortlessly have led to her success in teaching and leading workshops.

In August of 2011, Beth celebrated a dream come true - the Grand Opening of “West Michigan Fine Art Studio.” Located in Holland, Michigan this studio is home to 16 artists working in open spaces with an amazing sense of purpose.
"I have long imagined a studio space where artists are working and interacting to create an environment with the kind of energy that feeds the process of making art. West Michigan Fine Art Studio is that place." - Beth Charles

Beth teaches classes and workshops 8 months of the year. She has developed her own teaching style called “fresh, fast and loose.” Beth’s workshops and classes are geared for teaching students to “loosen up” their painting style and put more of themselves into their work.
